About Ensemble 642

Ensemble 642 are leaders of the next generation of Antipodean musicians dedicated to early music and historically informed performance practice. Acclaimed for their spellbinding performances, they bring the emotion and spirit of the Baroque to life.

About the concert

On plucked string instruments, the bond between music and musician is as intricate as that of a singer and their vocal cords. With hands touching the strings, the stakes are high to hit each note with precision, and the rewards of everything going to plan are heard in intimate detail.

The rich sonorities of bowed and plucked strings unite in a dance of light and shadow for this program exploring the birth of instrumental virtuosity in Baroque Italy.

Composers such as Marini, Corelli and Leonarda used the violin’s melodic ability to mirror the expressive qualities of the human voice. They invented a new genre of music, which combines explosive virtuosity with languid melodies, all with the aim of communicating the depth of human emotion.

With Special Guest

Ensemble 642 are joined by one of Australia’s foremost baroque violinists, Lucinda Moon. for a journey through some of the most beautiful and innovative instrumental music from the Baroque era.
