Intoxicating originality and cultivated artistry

Singer-songwriter Martha Marlow performs with an overarching sense of vulnerability, crafting songs with intoxicating originality and cultivated artistry.

With her dazzlingly accomplished, ARIA nominated album, Martha Marlow arrives with an artistic vision fully formed. Drenched in orchestral pop, Medicine Man is an evocative, heart-on-sleeve album, exploring recurrent themes of introspection, longing and hope.

Growing up in the same Sydney home where The Bee Gees honed their craft, Marlow was surrounded by music. Her father, renowned jazz bassist Jonathan Zwartz, crafted the album’s luscious string arrangements. Storytelling is central to Marlow’s practice, reaching towards her heroes old time heroes whilst channeling her contemporaries.

Her performance in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall will present Medicine Man in its entirety, with her band of jazz luminaries, backed by a 17-piece chamber orchestra led by Nigel Westlake.

Praise for Martha Marlow

‘A delicate tone with underlying layers of strength and bounce, Marlow’s voice is the absolute focal point for Medicine Man, only borrowing the use of either a small ensemble or larger orchestra when absolutely necessary.’ The AU Review

‘…still one of the year’s best kept secrets. …Martha Marlow’s strength as a songwriter comes from her deep musical sensibility, those rich melodies she delivers with ease, and her ability to share life’s important moments with a quietly confident power.’ Richard Kingsmill
