Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Mindy Meng Wang
Details
Unity and magic in a juxtaposition of composition styles.
About the artists
Mindy Meng Wang is a versatile Chinese/Australian composer and performer, masterfully trained on the traditional Chinese instrument, the guzheng. Born and classically trained in China, Mindy studied Western Musicology in the UK before migrating to Australia. Excelling in experimental music and improvisation, she is pioneering a new sonic direction for the guzheng. Tim Shiel is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and radio host. His sounds traverse ambience, electronica and dreamy melodies.
About the concert
Their first collaborative EP Nervous Energy was released in 2021 to widespread acclaim. The works found unity and magic in the juxtaposition of composition styles – Mindy on an instrument which is 2,500 years old, and Tim whose beats are made entirely electronically. The end result is a captivating conversation between two parts, an invitation into a new and exciting sonic world.
Exceptionally innovative and intuitively creative, their performance in Primrose Potter Salon will leave audiences awash in some of the best electronic music of the year.
