About the concert
Dvořák’s Two Waltzes began as a request for dance music at a ball, Dvořák swiftly arranged the two most popular for string quartet. The first – a gently rocking and distinctly Czech waltz, the second – an uplifting piece which echoes the spirit of his Slavonic Dances.
Schubert’s String Quartet No. 15 is a sublime masterpiece of epic grandeur and lilting melodies, both operatic in temperament and symphonic in dimensions. Ending with a movement of perpetual vigour, and the last of Schubert’s string quartets, the piece is hauntingly transcendent. An arresting work, its scale only intensified by a live performance.
Melbourne Recital Centre is committed to the safety of our artists, staff and patrons. When we reopen, a range of public health, hygiene and physical distancing measures will be in place. Click here to learn more.
