About Yiyun Gu
Chinese-Australian pianist Yiyun Gu’s enlightening concerts highlight the best voices in Eastern and Western compositions. Showcasing different styles, cultures and sources of inspiration, her passionate performances promise a wealth of new discoveries to cherish.
About the concert
Virtuoso pianist Yiyun Gu performs poetic works from across the globe, inspired by exquisite stories. From the Romantic period, Tchaikovsky’s Concert Suite from The Nutcracker is a fairy ballet and one of the most well-known scores in the world of dance. To France, Ravel’s piano suite Gaspard de la nuit is based on three haunting poems about the night.
Travelling to the Far East, the mystical dances by An-Lun Huang are inspired by ancient cave paintings, influenced by Chinese, Indian and Persian mythologies. Let your imagination whirl as Yiyun shares her musical thoughts on these dizzyingly enchanting works.
This event is part of Piano Day 2022. An annual celebration of the piano on the 88th day of the year, founded by Nils Frahm.
Melbourne Recital Centre is committed to the safety of our artists, staff and patrons. As we reopen, a range of public health, hygiene and physical distancing measures will be in place. Click here to learn more.
