Details
A dynamic, mesmerising voice.
From the moment you experience the soulful croon of Te Karehana Gardiner-Toi – professionally known as TEEKS – you’ll be hooked on his vibrant, sensuous voice. Presented by Rising and Melbourne Recital Centre, TEEKS performance will showcase his distinctly raspy yet rich vocals in the beautiful Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.
A native of Northland, Aotearoa, New Zealand, TEEKS grew up surrounded by music and performance. He was raised on everything from traditional waiata and kapa haka to Bob Marley, Elvis Presley and Sam Cooke. Last year was his most successful to date with a 6-date sold out nationwide tour of Aotearoa New Zealand and picking up three Aotearoa Music Awards for Best Solo Artist, Best Māori Artist, Best Soul/R&B Artist.
His performance in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall will feature works from his critically acclaimed 2017 EP The Grapefruit Skies and No.1 gold-selling debut album Something To Feel. Known for his mesmerising live performances, where an ostensible initial shyness quickly gives way to a rare level of vulnerability, TEEKS’ show is not to be missed.
Praise for TEEKS
‘His ballads, like soothing balms for heartache, and his stage presence, endearing and utterly likeable, are universally appealing – and his motley crew crowd are a testament to that.’ Stuff
