The Persephone Project – A Song of Sisters

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Helen Mountfort
Details
Playfully blurring the lines between classical and popular music.
About the artists
The Persephone Project are a piano trio taking audiences on a genre bending musical journey interspersing their own original music with short morsels of classical and world music that inspires them. Featuring My Friend the Chocolate Cake string queens Helen Mountfort and Hope Csutoros and superb pianist Phillipa Safey.
About the concert
Their performance in Primrose Potter Salon presents luscious string and piano music, deliberately blurring the lines between classical and popular music. Sometimes moody, sometimes joyous and rumbustious, the trio will perform music they love with passion and verve.
Featuring works from My Friend the Chocolate Cake and Cosmo Cosmolino alongside works that inspire their own compositions, with unique arrangements of Shostakovich’s tender Waltz from Jazz Suite No.2, Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s Perpetuum Mobile, Satie’s exquisite Gnossienne No.4, and some of the enchanting pieces from the children’s Music of Béla Bartók.
