The terrible truth, where beautiful lies

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Bush Gothic & The Lonely String Quartet
Details
A collaborative melding of ethereal vocals and enchanting string arrangements.
About the artists
Bush Gothic and the Lonely String Quartet unite for a collaborative melding of ethereal vocals and enchanting string arrangements. Bush Gothic are defiantly modern and achingly old, merging folk, long-standing tales and new ideas.
With her ethereal voice and exquisite violin, Jenny M. Thomas is the enchanting new face of Australian folk music. Jenny dusts off traditional songs about bushrangers, shipwrecks and dangerous women, fashioning them into dreamy chamber works of rebellious beauty.
About the concert
Henry Lawson and Midnight Oil rub shoulders in this brilliantly unorthodox take on the Australian songbook. Unafraid to cross the boundaries between genres, the artists’ unique and eloquent chamber renditions of songs such as Andy’s Gone with Cattle, Botany Bay, Great Southern Land and Read About It, are nothing short of inspired. Featured alongside the world premiere of a new work by Chris Pickering, recipient of the Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Composition Award. The pioneering folk artistry of Bush Gothic undoubtedly heralds a new era for appreciating the old tunes.
