The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony presents dazzling musical gifts in its second performance of 2022.

About the concert

This second performance of the University of Melbourne Wind Symphony features iconic pillars of the repertoire alongside thrilling new premieres.

The concert begins with Cuong’s brilliant work, Moth. As Cuong describes, the piece seeks inspiration from the dualities between light and dark, beauty and grotesque, reality and fantasy, and the ultimate decision to sacrifice sensibility for grace.

Hindemith’s most performed work for the wind band, the Symphony in B-flat, is a tour-de-force that shows his ‘great contrapuntal skill and the organized logic of his thematic material.’

The concert ends with the world premiere of a new arrangement of Enesco’s Romanian Rhapsody, featuring clarinet soloists from the Melbourne Conservatorium: Associate Professor David Griffiths and Honours student Jes Broeren. The blazing technique and awe-inspiring musicality of these two clarinet artists will be a great way to finish the concert and send everyone home with a smile.
