Panorama Brasil – Clube da Esquina

Panorama Brasil

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Panorama Brasil

Details

A celebration of Clube da Esquina and the iconic music that helped bring the Minas Gerais sound to the world.

Panorama Brasil draws on the diverse musical landscape of Brazil – from the arid interior, the Amazonian basin, and the streets, bars and clubs of Rio and Salvador. Panorama Brasil is led by drummer and composer Alastair Kerr, a longtime student of Brazilian music, recognised as one of Australia’s leading exponents of Brazilian percussion.

About the concert

Their performance in Primrose Potter Salon celebrates Clube da Esquina and the iconic music that helped bring the Minas Gerais sound to the world. Blending elements of Música popular brasileira (MPB), folk music and baroque-pop, the double-album was released in 1972 by the artistic collective known as Clube da Esquina and featured works from Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Márcio Borges, and poet Fernando Brandt.

Panorama Brasil are joined by guest vocalist Alda Rezende. Alda is a native of Minas Gerais and these songs are part of her musical DNA. Alda’s rich voice and the sublime ensemble sound of Panorama Brasil will lead you through the vibrant musical sounds of Minas Gerais and Clube da Esquina, showcasing the brilliance of those songwriters and musicians.
