Since opening in 2009, Melbourne Recital Centre has established itself as one of the most mesmerising Australian venues to experience live music.
Spanning chamber, electronica, choral, jazz, strings, experimental and more, the Live From Melbourne Recital Centre digital season showcases Australia’s finest artists recorded live in the stunning Elisabeth Murdoch Hall and Primrose Potter Salon.
The season features cello and guitar virtuosos Sharon and Slava Grigoryan, heart-rending indigenous storyteller Robert K Champion, renowned chamber ensemble Firebird Trio, lively European folk trio Vardos, dream electronica duo Luluc, much-loved pianist and chamber singers Gemma Turvey & Consort of Melbourne, experimental music mavericks Rubiks Collective, award-winning chamber ensemble Benaud Trio and charming jazz vocalist Jackie Bornstein.
The recent circuit-breaker lockdowns in Victoria have yet again highlighted the long-lasting impact and recurring threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. With increased barriers to attending live events, it has made access, community, connection and wellbeing more important than ever.
“Music is so powerful. It’s more than entertainment. It fuels connection, improves wellbeing, and moves us in so many ways. Our Live from Melbourne Recital Centre season certainly showcases the breadth of our program, but more than that, it offers an escape or moment of beauty for music-lovers in challenging times, all from the comfort of their very own living room or device – whenever they like or whenever they need.” Euan Murdoch, CEO at Melbourne Recital Centre.
“The music must play on. As an artist myself, I’m grateful to work with and present such a talented and vast range of Australian artists, and for the Centre provides yet another platform for artists to share their music and stories on a far greater scale than we’ve done before.” Marshall McGuire, Director of Programming at Melbourne Recital Centre.
This is just one of the new digital offerings Melbourne Recital Centre has announced this year. Earlier this month the Centre announced a new partnership with pandemic pioneers Melbourne Digital Concert Hall, welcoming them as ‘Digital Series Partner’ of the Centre’s flagship Great Performers recital series.
