Hanson Dyer Hall is located in The Ian Potter Southbank Centre — the new home of the Melbourne Conservatorium or Music.
Boasting world-leading acoustic spaces, the Conservatorium features multiple rehearsal spaces, small studios, a flexible performance and rehearsal venue designed for professional recording capability, a 400-seat performance space, student hub and performance space foyer and informal study and meeting spaces.
It can also lay claim to one of the world’s largest oculus windows, six metres in diameter. The Conservatorium is also now able to integrate over 1,000 enrolled music students and 6,600 students from other faculties across two campuses.

Trams
The nearest tram stop is Stop 17 (Route 1), located directly outside Melbourne Recital Centre on Sturt St. This is a platform tram stop providing level access to low floor trams, passenger shelter and protection from traffic.
You can also take routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 or 72 and alight at Stop 16, outside the National Gallery of Victoria and walk to Hanson Dyer Hall via Southbank Boulevard.
Train
The nearest station is Flinders Street, located approximately 10 minutes walk from the Centre.
Bus
Melbourne Bus Link operates three routes along Southbank Boulevard: Route 216, 219 and 220.
The free Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle runs in a loop through Melbourne’s CBD every 15 minutes, and stops at the corner of Southbank Blvd and Kavanagh Street (Stop 10).
Parking
You can choose from a variety of conveniently located car parks when attending events at the Centre. The two closest car parks are:
- Arts Centre Melbourne Car Park (enter from Sturt Street) – 150 metres north along Sturt Street (p: 03 9281 8012)
- The Australian Ballet Centre Car Park (2 Kavanagh Street) – 150 metres north along Sturt Street, then left into Kavanagh Street
Parking for people with a disability is available in both Sturt Street and Dodds Steet, and also available at all major car parks in the vicinity, including Arts Centre Melbourne Car Park and The Australian Ballet Centre Car Park.
Dropping Off/Picking Up
The safest place to pick up and drop off passengers is the Sturt Street entrance of the Centre, away from the busy intersection.
