Ensemble Liaison & Friends – Beethoven’s Septet

Ensemble Liaison & Friends at Hanson Dyer Hall.

Ensemble Liaison & Friends is a unique concert series presented by three internationally acclaimed musicians - David Griffiths (clarinet), Svetlana Bogosavljevic (cello) and Timothy Young (piano). Their first concert series at the Edge, Federation Square in 2007 established Ensemble Liaison as a tour de force, renowned for imaginative and innovative programming, setting the trend for brilliant collaborations with leading artists. As suggested by their name, collaborations form the basis of their artistic and musical vision. Over the following 19 seasons they have collaborated with many of the finest musicians, singers, dancers, actors, lighting designers, puppeteers, conductors, choirs and improvisers from across Australia and beyond. Critics have hailed their performances as: spellbinding, flawless, a revelation, moving, joyous, polished, engaging, powerful and having boundless lyricism.

Their second concert at Hanson Dyer Hall features Ensemble Liaison's own Timothy Young in two ways, firstly as composer, opening with his second composition, Distant Waters, a set of variations on a theme with interesting origins, secondly as pianist, performing the virtuosic extremes of Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit. After which they are delighted to team up and expand our forces with many special guests, Dale Barltrop from the Australian String Quartet along with the distinguished staff and talented students from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. This colourful array of instruments will come together to present one of Beethoven's most popular works, his Septer in Eb Op.20.

'Ensemble Liaison, with its superb bunch of friends, has continued to cement itself as one of Australia's most accomplished chamber ensembles.' Limelight magazine
