Flinders Quartet at Montsalvat – New Light

Beethoven's majestic late quartet meets luminous works by Bacewicz and Dodd.

The final concert of the year shines a "new light" on the quartet tradition. Beethoven's String Quartet in E-flat, Op.127 - the first of his groundbreaking late quartets - opens the program with majestic chords and profound emotional range.

This is complemented by Grażyna Bacewicz's String Quartet No.3, a work of brilliance, wit, and structural clarity by one of the 20th century's most compelling yet under-celebrated voices.

Completing the program is a world premiere by Naomi Dodd, an Australian composer whose music demonstrates keen intelligence and natural affinity for the string quartet form. Together, these works chart a course through innovation and tradition, affirming the vitality and diversity of the quartet repertoire today.
