Selby & Friends celebrates 20 years in 2026.
A message from Kathryn Selby AM
It's hard to believe that 2026 will be my 20th Season of presenting Selby & Friends in its current format. Originally created in 1989 as a vehicle to introduce classical music to children through concerts at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, the series and its activities grew to include Macquarie Trio and then Selby & Friends was recreated from 2006.
It has been a fascinating journey and one that has included performances with outstanding artists exploring extraordinary music through the years. It has also been a lovely way to meet Australian audiences and enjoy the irrepressible humour and generosity of these music lovers who have made this, and every season possible.
In 2026, I have the honour of working once again with my friends, violinists Natalie Chee, Susie Park, Andrew Haveron, Alexandra Osborne and Kristian Winther, and cellists Julian Smiles, Timo-Veikko Valve and Clancy Newman. I welcome back two brilliant young Australian cellists, Richard Narroway and Miles Mullin-Chivers and newcomers, violinist Louise Turnbull and violist Ariel Postmus.
These outstanding artists bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and charisma to the series, but alongside these important attributes are joy, generosity of spirit and a comradeship and willingness to share with their younger colleagues that is unparalleled. The gorgeous programs speak for themselves - I have tried to include many favourites whilst introducing some rarely heard gems and there is enough variety here to appeal to every taste.
I warmly invite you to our 2026 Season and look forward to celebrating 20 years of Selby & Friends with you. Click here to watch the 2026 Season trailer.
