Melbourne indie-jangle heroes celebrate their album Seventh in a rare hometown show.
Shawcross Pizza on Brunswick Street is under new management, but Good Morning’s Shawcross EP from 2014 is still as classic as it ever was. In fact, it’s so tuneful and wistful that, in more recent years, it went viral on TikTok and got sampled by A$AP Rocky. With their international fan base boosted, the band have since become stalwarts of the indie underground, worldwide.
The high school friends-turned-band-mates Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons now live in Los Angeles and London, respectively. But they’re playing a rare hometown show at Melbourne Recital Centre for RISING. It’s an acoustically deluxe venue befitting the orchestral sounds and crackles on Seven, their most expansive, ambitious album yet. Think Dick Diver, Liz Phair and Brian Wilson soundtracking a black and white musical about drifting into your thirties.
