MCO – Crystalline Voices

Crystalline Voices

Presented by Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

Details

Energy, daring and imagination.

Timo-Veikko Valve (Tipi to his friends) left Helsinki 17 years ago to become Principal Cello of Australian Chamber Orchestra. Since then he’s continuously travelled across Australia and the globe delighting audiences on his 400-year-old cello.

For this project, MCO welcomes him as our guest curator, director, and soloist. The music Tipi has chosen for these concerts is a beautiful depiction of his Finnish nationality, his time in Australia, his love of the cello, and his devotion to chamber music.

For these concerts, Tipi envisions Melbourne Chamber Orchestra as an enormous chamber ensemble: Schubert’s iconic Arpeggione Sonata is cast as a cello concerto, and Sibelius’ virtuosic Intimate Voices string quartet is performed by the whole orchestra.

Reflective works by Ida Moberg from Finland and Olivia Bettina-Davies from Australia, and echoes of Australian legend Peter Sculthorpe, complete a captivating concert experience.
