Åkervinda - Spellbound

Experience the ethereal voices of Åkervinda.

Jazz singers at heart, award-winning vocal quartet Åkervinda breathe new life into Scandinavian folk tunes through their original and modern interpretations. Sharing a deep love of folk music, their music flows between danceable passages and meditative moments, always grounded in the stories and emotions of the folk tradition.

Through close harmonies and expressive voices, Åkervinda takes listeners on a journey exploring the mysticism, beauty, and rawness of Nordic folk songs. Offering a space for reflection and connection, Åkervinda's performances are a sonic remedy for the heaviness of the world, where ancient melodies become timeless expressions of the human experience.

Praise for Åkervinda

'I am spellbound by these four gorgeous voices breathing as one, telling stories that transcend language barriers. Their arrangements are invigorating, inspiring and grounded in a deep understanding of folk traditions.' - The Swingles

'Åkervinda simply blew the canvas off of the tent at the Nest's Stage at Shambala Festival. It was wonderful to see 500 hedonism seeking festival goers stop in their tracks sit and listen to these ancient songs sung with such power and energy. A memorable experience for all!' - The Nest Collective

'Åkervinda... Ethereal, magical, folky in a spot on 'serious musicians here' kind of way. There were no rough edges to this warmup act; only tight harmonies and an upfront execution of some stunningly difficult folk tune arrangements. This quartet of women had the audience literally begging for more.' - Vocal Australia, London A Cappella Festival

'It is wonderful to hear pure voice-so ancient, so eternal, so moving. Their voices and songs resonated with everyone.'- Norwegian American Weekly, Brooklyn

About Akervinda

The group is named after the Swedish wildflower Åkervinda, whose roots spread far and wide like rivers under the ground. Like the flower, gracefully entwining melodies, rock-solid groove, and ever-intriguing harmonies will take root in your mind.

The group has toured the US and Canada, singing at various festivals in France, Luxembourg, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, and the UK. Their second album, Förgänglighet, was nominated for a Swedish Grammis for 'Folk Music of the Year', and their third album, Så Skall Hat och Avund Smältas, won a Danish Music Award in 2024.
