The glorious radiance of Mozart’s G Major quartet heralds a ground-breaking set of works dedicated to the great “Papa” Haydn, whose quartet mastery made an indelible mark on the young Mozart.

There is no doubt that the Polish violinist and composer, Grażyna Bacewicz, built on the influence of the classical masters and forged a fresh path of her own. Her seven quartets are strikingly original and full of infectious, folk-inspired explorations that deservedly earned her the reputation of being one of the 20th century’s most prolific and successful female composers. The third quartet of Dmitri Shostakovich is a towering achievement of profound depth, written in the shadow of war and reverberating with personal struggle and resilience.
