Australian String Quartet x Parvyn

A genre-defying performance where contemporary Punjabi music meets the string quartet.

The Australian String Quartet teams up with award-winning singer Parvyn and multi-instrumentalist Josh Bennett for a concert that blends the sounds of contemporary Punjabi music with the string quartet.

Hear Parvyn’s vocals soar in a set of her own original Indian raga, pop and soul music, alongside arrangements merging voice, sitar, and string quartet. In interplay with this is a selection of works for string quartet born from vocal influences–Marcus Goddard’s Allaqi, inspired by Inuit throat singing practices, and the second movement of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden string quartet, inspired by the composer’s song of the same name.

Australian String Quartet is Australia’s pre-eminent organisation dedicated to string quartet music and Quartet-in-Residence at Adelaide University’s Elder Conservatorium and School of Performing Arts.

Parvyn's genre-drifting flow-state pop melds with classical Indian raga, soul and jazz – all anchored by her ethereal, inimitable vocals. Representing her Sikh Punjabi background, Parvyn has been touring internationally from a young age with her father Dya Singh then as lead vocalist in Melbourne’s acclaimed vintage Bollywood inspired band The Bombay Royale. ARIA nominated 'Best World Music Album’ for her debut solo record ‘Sa’ in 2022, and awarded 2025 AIR award for ‘Best Independent Jazz Album’ with her sophomore release ‘Maujuda’, Parvyn’s music is immersed in a reflective world of different cultures and perspectives.

Accompanying her on guitar is multi-instrumentalist and Adelaide acoustic world-music luminary Josh Bennett. Also a former member of Dya Singh's World Music Group, Josh has studied Indian Classical music extensively in India, and has performed sitar for Pandit Ravi Shankar at his home in Delhi. At home on a multitude of stringed and skinned instruments, Josh adds a tapestry of sound to Parvyn's lush voice.
