Natural born storyteller Michelle Nicolle, with her powerful take on the jazz vocal tradition, returns to Melbourne Recital Centre alongside guitarist Hugh Stuckey. In Hugh, she finds a partner who matches her fluency in jazz.

In this Friday night performance, Michelle and Hugh chart their own course through cherished jazz standards and original songs of love, loss and joy, letting the moment shape the music.

Standard $45 ($40 Concession)

Please note, online ticket sales for events in The Beacon close 2.5 hours before the performance. After this time, tickets can be booked by calling the MRC Box Office or visiting us in person, pending availability.

The Peter & Ruth McMullin Beacon offers a variety of seating options. Please select your preferred seating type when booking. Our Visitor Experience team will do their best to seat your party together within your selected seating type. Smaller groups may be seated alongside other ticket holders, and for sold-out performances, parties who booked later may need to be split across the remaining available seats.

Tables – Standard dining tables seating 2–4 people.
High Tables – Bar-height tables with stools seating 3–4 people.
Lounge – Curved banquette lounge seating for up to 4 people around a shared table.

Michelle Nicolle, hailed as Australia's preeminent female jazz singer, is a living embodiment of artistry and elegance in the jazz world. She has appeared at festivals all over Australia and the world - from Tokyo to Siberia. Improvisor and composer Michelle has for the last 26 years led one of Australia’s most lauded creative jazz ensembles The Michelle Nicolle Quartet. She’s sang with Wynton Marsalis and the JLCO with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and with Kurt Elling. A multi-award-winner, Michelle’s accolades include the prestigious Bell Award (2017), National Jazz Award winner (1998) and 3-time ARIA Finalist and 2024 Music Victoria Award “Best Jazz Work” for The Bach Project cementing her as a national treasure with global appeal.

Releasing 12 distinct albums Michelle’s most recent recording projects were both released in 2025. The Silent Wish is an adventurous duo album recorded in LA featuring legendary US guitarist, Larry Koonse and Noir (ABC JAZZ) is a luscious duo album with Australian pianist/ composer luminary, Paul Grabowsky.
