Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre
Chad Lawson & Priya Singh-Kaushal

Sparse, unhurried piano where silence carries as much as the notes.
Across two separate sets, immerse yourself in an evening of original piano music by Chad Lawson and Priya Singh-Kaushal, where contemporary classical music meets stillness, reflection, and quiet beauty.
Chad Lawson is an American pianist and composer whose music has been heard more than a billion times worldwide. A Steinway Artist for Decca (Universal Music Group), he writes with remarkable restraint, allowing a handful of notes, a lingering silence, and the space around a phrase to carry the emotional weight. His music asks little of the listener beyond a willingness to slow down. Featuring works across his catalogue, he will perform pieces from breathe, Where We Are, and The Chopin Variations, his reworkings of Chopin.
Joining Lawson for the performance is Indian-Australian pianist and composer Priya Singh-Kaushal. Writing from Wurundjeri Country, her intimate neoclassical works explore wordless emotion and the quiet complexities of modern life. Opening the evening, she will perform a selection of unreleased original compositions for solo piano. Her own playing shares the register of the night, unhurried, understated, and richly atmospheric, making her a natural companion to Lawson's set.
Duration: 1 hour (no interval). Please note, running times are approximate and subject to change.

About the Artists
Chad Lawson’s work explores the relationship between music, stillness, and emotional well-being. He serves as a UN Representative for the World Federation for Mental Health, is twice certified in breathwork with Yoga Alliance accreditation, and hosts the podcast Calm It Down, where conversations on anxiety, resilience, and rest have reached millions of listeners around the world.
His performances reflect the same philosophy that shapes his recordings. Rather than asking an audience to be moved, Lawson creates the conditions in which stillness can emerge on its own. Each performance becomes an invitation to set something down for a while, to listen without urgency, and to discover that silence is not the absence of music, but part of it.
Priya Singh-Kaushal is an Indian-Australian pianist and composer from Melbourne. After discovering the piano in her teens, she immersed herself in the world of classical and contemporary composers to soon begin creating works of her own that linger beyond the final note.
Priya’s music constantly reaches for a place unknown, materialising the wordless emotions that arise from the chaos and silences of our modern lives.
She is currently finalising her debut release.
