Dr. L. Subramaniam

Witness one of the world’s greatest violinists.

Hailed as the ‘God of Indian Violin’ (Times of India) and ‘the best they had ever heard’ (The New York Times), Subramaniam has redefined the violin on the world stage.

A child prodigy, Subramaniam performed his first concert at age six and won the All-India Radio national competition, receiving the best violinist prize from President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he has mastered Carnatic and Western classical traditions, pioneered global fusion in the 1970s, and produced over 200 recordings across genres. From orchestral works with the New York Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra to film scores such as Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala, his insatiable musical curiosity has led to historic collaborations with George Harrison, Stevie Wonder, Yehudi Menuhin, Herbie Hancock, and many more.

With numerous accolades including the Padma Bhushan, Grammy nominations, and honorary doctorates, Dr. L. Subramaniam stands as a true cultural ambassador. Making his highly anticipated Melbourne Recital Centre debut, don’t miss one of the greatest violinists in the history of Indian music.

About the Artists

VV Ramanamurthy
Recognised as a child prodigy mridangam player, VV Ramanamurthy holds the credit of playing his first concert at the age of eight. Winner of the AIR (All India Radio) Annual Music competition in 1981, he was also awarded the highest grade in AIR in Mridangam in 2007. VV Ramanamurthy has been an extensive performer for the past four decades, collaborating with all the top Indian Classical musicians of both Carnatic and Hindustani styles as well as Jazz Groups.

Tanmoy Bose
Tanmoy Bose is one of the foremost musicians in contemporary world music and an indispensable member in the global fraternity of percussion. Bose received his early tutelage from the legendary Pt Kanai Dutta. Bose became the Gandabandh Shagird (formally initiated disciple in Indian classical music) of the noted torchbearer of the Farukkabad gharana Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Even as early as being in college, he had the rare opportunity of being called upon by another musical legend, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan to perform with him. The association with this legendary maestro has been that of a family member for the last two decades performing with him so regularly. The ultimate milestone in Tanmoy Bose's life was achieved when the greatest ambassador of Indian Classical Music Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar invited him to play regularly with him around the world. He is currently a regular accompanying musician of Dr Lakshminarayana Subramaniam and Smt Kavita Krishnamurthy for their world music projects.

N Radhakrishnan
Sri Tripoonithura N. Radhakrishnan, a renowned Carnatic musician, began his journey under his father’s guidance and later trained under Prof. Parassala Ravi and Padmabhushan T.V. Gopalakrishnan. A prodigy, he started performing at the age of 11, accompanying legendary artists like Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer, and Dr. M.L. Vasanthakumari, among others. His versatility also led him to collaborate with veena maestros such as Chitti Babu and K.S. Narayanaswamy. Recognised nationally and internationally, he was awarded the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Fellowship in 2020.
