One of the world's great living composers, Caroline Shaw, makes her Melbourne Recital Centre debut alongside the acclaimed Kamus Quartet.
Founded in Helsinki in 2002, Kamus Quartet is one of the most celebrated ensembles to emerge from the Nordic region, renowned for a fearless range that stretches from early music to the newest contemporary works. Finland's largest newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, celebrated the ensemble for playing so tightly that ‘the brilliance of each individual shines through,’ while The Strad described their playing as ‘ferocious and uncompromising.’
Shaw brings a true rarity to the stage: the youngest-ever winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, and a two-time Grammy winner, performing her own music live. ‘I love nothing so much as you,’ she sings, as she lends her voice to a program she's helped shape. Shaw threads her own hypnotic, genre-defying songs through centuries of music history – from a Renaissance chanson by Josquin des Prez, to a Baroque sonata by Scarlatti, to Beethoven's much loved La Malinconia from his sixth string quartet.
