Presented by Flinders Quartet

Flinders Quartet – From Silence & Snow

Beethoven, Mustonen, Sibelius and Harrison in a dynamic dialogue across eras.

This program is as eclectic as it is rewarding. For Flinders Quartet violinist Wilma Smith, Beethoven's Op.18 No.4 marks a personal premiere after a lifetime of quartet playing, its fiery spirit adding a special milestone to the season opener.

Finland's premier composer, Olli Mustonen's String Quartet No.2 receives its first southern hemisphere performance, while Sibelius' beloved Voces Intimae continues the Finnish X-factor of intimacy and atmosphere.

Completing the program is Holly Harrison's Swoop, a dazzlingly virtuosic and rhythmically inventive piece that has delighted audiences worldwide. As Wilma reflects, 'Beethoven, Mustonen, Harrison and Sibelius - they may seem like chalk and cheese but I think this program's a real winner.'
