Genesis Baroque - Cantatas for Christmas

Experience a festive baroque feast.

Internationally renowned French soprano Myriam Arbouz, one of the most distinguished 17th and 18th-century vocal specialists of her generation, joins Genesis Baroque for a festive baroque feast.

The program celebrates the Christmas season with Graupner’s astonishingly beautiful cantata Angst und Jammer, a poignant depiction of healing from deep suffering through faith and salvation, and Bach’s exultant cantata for soprano and trumpet, Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, alongside Michel Corrette’s charming, inventive instrumental Christmas carol settings.

Praise for Genesis Baroque

‘Genesis Baroque could scarcely be more impressive. They produce a rich, sonorous sound, disciplined ensemble and a beautifully nuanced mutual understanding…’ – Sydney Morning Herald

About the Artists

Founded in 2017, Genesis Baroque brings together some of Australia’s preeminent historically informed musicians, presenting intimate and dynamic performances across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The ensemble performs variably as a chamber orchestra at full forces, through to small chamber ensemble, focusing on the repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries, but also exploring Classical, Romantic, and early 20th-century repertoire on period instruments. As early music specialists with a rich and varied range of experience in music of the Renaissance and Baroque, Classical and Romantic, folk, and commissioned new music, the musicians merge their unique creative skills into an imaginative, magnetic performance style.

Myriam Arbouz is one of the most distinguished sopranos to emerge from the new generation of French singers, recognisable by her warm timbre, her eloquence and taste for declamation. Premiere winner of the Froville International Baroque Singing Competition in 2017 and a laureat of the Royaumont’s Fondation, Myriam is in great demand on the international stage, especially in 17th and 18th century repertoire.
