Les Kapsber'girls - Rome, Paris, Madrid

A spirited musical journey through Baroque Europe, where cultures converge.

Crossing borders and blending traditions, Les Kapsber’girls bring the vibrant sounds of Baroque Europe to the intimacy of the Primrose Potter Salon.

Featuring two voices and three instruments shared by four musicians, this inventive ensemble journeys through the musical worlds of 17th- and 18th-century Italy, France and Spain. Expect the expressive beauty of French brunettes, the spirited charm of Italian villanelles and the rhythmic vitality of Spanish tonos humanos, woven into a richly varied program of songs and instrumental works.

In Baroque Europe, musical ideas travelled as freely as the artists themselves. Hieronymus Kapsberger’s Italian villanelles reveal Iberian influences, while French court composer Étienne Moulinié embraced the Spanish fashions of his day. Francesco Corbetta journeyed from Italy to England and France, eventually becoming guitarist to the Sun King, Louis XIV. Meanwhile, Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz drew inspiration from the great Italian masters.

Through these artistic exchanges, Les Kapsber’girls share folk traditions and ancestral melodies. Intimate, expressive and full of character, this is music that crosses centuries to strike a chord today.
