Witness the world premiere of two new works by Bronzewing.

Step into a world of exploration and witness the future of Australian composition. Partnered with the exciting new music ensemble Bronzewing, UoM alumni composers Nicole Brady and Arie Madden Welti will have the world premiere of their works in the intimacy of the Primrose Potter Salon.

Elevating a long running partnership with the University of Melbourne (UoM), the Marshall McGuire Emerging Composer Commission is a project for early career composers. As outgoing Director of Programming, the project honours Marshall’s decade-long service to the Centre, and acknowledges his commitment to nurturing the next generation of young Australian composers.

About the Artist

Bronzewing weaves old and new together in a spectacular, raucous combination. Donald Nicolson (harpsichord and synths) and Katie Yap (baroque viola and vocals) are two of Australia's foremost period musicians, they catapult their ancient instruments into modern soundworlds.

Exploring co-composition, they draw on influences from Hildegard von Bingen, JS Bach, and 70s electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre. Their debut work, Black Cockatoos is a 13-minute tour-de-force based on Judith Wright's poem of the same name, evoking the unsettling moments before a storm, and the heavy wildness of the black cockatoo’s wingbeats.
