Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre
Roderick Williams with Timothy Young

One of Britain's finest voices sings songs of love.
Renowned for 'his phrasing, dramatic physicality and [the] illuminating way [he brings] fresh insights to old favourites' (The Guardian), British baritone Roderick Williams is one of his country's most sought-after performers. Equally at home in opera houses and recital halls worldwide, Williams returns to Melbourne to perform a morning of love letters in song. The yearning of Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte, the tender lyricism of Alma Mahler, and the autumnal beauty of Vaughan Williams's final songs all shine with Williams' signature ‘velvet’ (Classic FM) voice.
An award-winning composer in his own right, Williams also brings two of his own compositions, and a new commission from Sarah Henderson, before closing with Ravel's wry, wistful Don Quichotte à Dulcinée. Joined by pianist Timothy Young, one of Australia's most trusted accompanists, together these two artists bring every shade of longing, humour and heartbreak to life.
