Ripple Effect

In its final concert of the year, the University of Melbourne Wind Symphony explores music shaped by the ocean, waterways and the landscapes and stories that surround them.

Steven Bryant’s Ecstatic Waters opens the program with a vivid, immersive sound world of shimmering textures, powerful currents and dramatic transformation. We then hear Pillars of Limestone, a new work by MCM composition student Chance Fullerton.

George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae (Voice of the Whale) follows, creating an underwater world inspired by the songs of the humpback whale. The work features new flute lecturer Catherine Gregory, with Richard Narroway on cello, and Jerry Wong on piano.

The program concludes with Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, his settings of folk songs collected from singers in Lincolnshire. Its sailors, travellers and lovers inhabit a landscape shaped by waterways, carrying stories and memories across generations.

Ticket Prices

Tickets to this event are free, however booking is required. 

Please note, if the event is sold out, you may still obtain a seat by arriving at the venue before the start time and visiting the Box Office. They will have a supply of additional tickets available on the day exclusively for walk-ups.
