David Hirschfelder x Mindy Meng Wang - Unfold

A breathtaking, immersive journey of piano, guzheng, poetry, and interactive visuals.

Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning composer and pianist David Hirschfelder, together with world-renowned contemporary guzheng (ancient Chinese harp) artist Mindy Meng Wang, presents their groundbreaking collaboration, UNFOLD. Inspired by the timeless poetry of Tsangyang Gyatso, the duo crafts an immersive experience in which virtuosic live music, ancient poetry, and interactive visuals come together.

Tsangyang Gyatso, the unconventional 17th-century Tibetan monk recognised as the sixth Dalai Lama, grappled with a deep inner conflict between his role as a spiritual leader and his yearning for love and freedom. His poetry, rich with this tension, has resonated across generations. Channelling the essence of his words into their compositions, Mindy and David create an unforgettable, contemplative musical experience.

The evening unfolds through five musical chapters, accompanied by interactive visuals that respond to and deepen the live performance. Moving between stillness and dramatic intensity, ancient sensibility and contemporary expression, UNFOLD invites audiences into a meditative yet emotionally powerful world — a space to listen deeply, slow down, and experience poetry through sound.
