Experience a program of remarkable firsts, bringing together two great Russian composers spanning the late Romantic and early 20th century alongside Beethoven’s early yet masterful exploration of the piano trio.
Shostakovich was just 17 when he composed the first of only two piano trios he would ever write, while Beethoven was still establishing himself in Vienna as both pianist and composer when he created his Op.1 piano trios. Completing the program is Arensky’s passionate and turbulent first piano trio, the work that helped establish his reputation as one of Russia’s leading composers.
Together, these works capture three extraordinary composers at pivotal moments in their creative lives, revealing the ambition, individuality and musical voices that would come to define them.
