Event details

Music for the mind, heart, and spirit.

Revered by the greatest musicians of every age since their composition, the two books of Bach’s Das wohltemperierte Klavier are considered contrapuntal masterworks. A series of forty-eight preludes and fugues in all major and minor keys, both books are celebrated and beloved by keyboardists and audiences alike.

About the concert

While regarded as one of the most influential works in Western music, the books are rarely performed in their entirety due to the significant demands placed upon the performer. However, over two performances in the Primrose Potter Salon – one in August and one in October expert performer on all Baroque keyboard instruments, Calvin ventures through the world of Bach and presents each book, one at a time, for audiences to savor and enjoy.

With over thirty-five years of careful consideration and performance, Bowman will draw out the colour and intricacies of Bach’s vision to create a musical experience unique to the modern piano – a wonderful conclusion to his two-part exploration.

Praise for Calvin Bowman

‘Masterful series of performances…One had the sense that this was not an interpretation but the voice of Bach ringing through the ages.’ – The Australian
