Inventi Ensemble – Art of Fugue

Inventi Ensemble

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Inventi Ensemble

Details

Experience the intricacies of Bach’s masterpiece.

Inventi Ensemble are a leading force in Australian chamber music. Known for their impressive arrangements of large-scale orchestral works and their dedication to regularly commissioning and performing new works by living Australian composers, they have been heralded as an exciting voice in Australian music.

About the concert

Inventi Ensemble takes on one of Bach’s greatest works, offering a unique arrangement for flute, oboe, violin, viola, and cello. Bach was known for his mastery of musical puzzles, creating sublime music from the most complex equations.

Although Bach’s The Art of Fugue was left unfinished, this concert features a commission by Kym Alexandra Dillon, a Geelong-based composer who completed the chorale in a new and unique way. Each movement of the piece maintains the original theme, but they are presented in a creative and exciting way, with some flipped on their head, turned backwards, or transposed into different keys, all while maintaining the same time and mathematical precision.
