Australian Canvas: The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony

The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony

Presented by The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony

Details

The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony presents ‘Australian Canvas’, conducted by Dr Nicholas Enrico Williams.

The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony’s second concert for the year features an exciting program with works by Paul Dooley, Percy Grainger, Morten Lauridsen, Arturo Márquez and world premiere of Catherine Likhuta’s concerto for timpani and wind symphony.

Likhuta’s Storm Chasers was commissioned by an international consortium led by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne. The composition features extensive interaction between the timpani soloist Brent Miller and the ensemble’s percussion section. From dramatic to adventurous, ominous to observational, mourning loss to the after-storm healing powers of nature restoring itself, this piece is a journey through it all.
