About the concert

Well known and thrilling musicians Sophie Rowell (former Melbourne Symphony Concertmaster and new Melbourne Chamber Orchestra director) and Kristian Chong have been playing together for many years, having grown up together in their home town of Adelaide. They play a program of epic proportions – starting with Australian Margaret Sutherland’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, written almost 100 years ago in 1925.

Following from this is the great Cesar Franck Sonata for Violin and Piano, one of the highlights of the sonata repertoire; a beautiful, passionate and mesmerising journey that written as a wedding present to the violinist Ysaÿe. It culminates as any wedding does – with exultant joy. A recital not to be missed.
