The Chills

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre in arrangement with Mistletone Enterprises

Legendary New Zealand act The Chills return to Melbourne.

Innovators of the Dunedin sound, The Chills’ idiosyncratic persistence and artistic integrity has cemented them as a legendary act. Fronted by the rare talent of Martin Phillipps their diverse sound traverses lush psychedelia, whimsy and gloom, punk rock and bright jangly pop.

It’s been five years since The Chills were last in Melbourne. In that time, they’ve released their seventh studio album, Scatterbrain, a collection which echoes the maturity and breadth of Martin Phillipps’ experience. 2019 saw the release of documentary, The Chills: The Triumph and Tragedy of Martin Phillipp to critical acclaim, a story told with extraordinary candour.

The songwriting skills, vision and determination of front-man Martin Phillipps provides continuity in The Chills across the decades. Although The Chills have famously been through many personnel changes, the current line-up has been in place, more or less, for longer than most rock bands survive. This line-up provides the stability and musical competence that enables Martin to build on his legacy, and continue to write, record and perform his impressive collection of songs.

Their performance in the incredible surrounds of Elisabeth Murdoch Hall will somehow leave audiences enthralled, harrowed and jovial, all at once.

With Special Guest

The Chills will be supported by Melbourne based rock band, Parsnip.
