The Boite – Firetail x Gamelan DanAnda

The Boite

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & The Boite

Balinese gamelan meets electro-jazz fusion.

Get ready for an electrifying evening as Balinese gamelan orchestra, Gamelan DanAnda, and electro-jazz-fusion band, Firetail, weave a vibrant tapestry of musical unity. Based in Darebin, Naarm since 2013, Gamelan DanAnda performs in the explosive Gong Kebyar style, combining bronze xylophones, bells, cymbals, drums, and gongs. Blending soul-infused rhythms, driving percussion, and evocative melodies, Firetail’s music spans from 70’s jazz fusion to intricate South Indian Carnatic music, culminating in their distinctive brand of jazz-tronica.

Immerse yourself in this one-of-a-kind experience as Gamelan DanAnda and Firetail transform the intimate Primrose Potter Salon into a stunning cascade of shimmering metallic melodies, virtuosic rhythms, and breathtaking crescendos. Lauded by critics for its ‘thoroughly beguiling-musical language,’ (The Age), feel invigorated by this uplifting performance as it seamlessly merges traditional Balinese gamelan with Firetail’s unique brand of electro-jazz fusion.

Praise for the artists

‘A new–and thoroughly beguiling–musical language, wooden hammers dancing in perfect unison or forging intricate, interlocking patterns on shimmering metallophones, bamboo xylophones, gongs and double-headed drums.’ – The Age
